RETICULE
VERSATILITY. COMFORT. CHARACTER.
ETYMOLOGY
The word reticule is another term for a handbag. Used from 1795 to 1820, the reticule became popular with the advent of Regency fashion. Previously, women had carried personal belongings in pockets tied around the waist, but the reticule-with a drawstring closure and arm cord or chain- allowed for greater style and movement. When the reticule first appeared, it was a practical affair. Made of netting with minimal decoration, it was a wearable pocket to carry your essentials. But as the style gained favor, it became a fashion statement. Women made their own reticules from luxurious fabrics, embellished with elaborate hardware, embroidery, and beading.
Today, RETICULE is reborn.
